Tasmania’s second biggest city has an abundance of individual shops
selling everything from fashion for men and women to gifts and homewares.
The Brisbane Street pedestrian mall is home to the four major banks and major
retail chains.Yorktown Square, off George Street, is a charming shopping destination
with a mix of specialty shops, a coffee shop and a restaurant. There is also
a market in the Square on Sunday.
Unlike
Hobart, there are no distinct clusters of similar businesses in Launceston,
but take the time to wander on foot and discover unique shops like the Swiss
Chocolatier at 82 George Street or The Furniture Works, 118 Cimitiere Street,
showcasing fine Tasmanian furniture. Located at 290 Hobart Road, Youngtown,
is Jale Pearls, a gallery displaying freshwater and saltwater pearls in a
variety of settings to suit all bugets
