Brisbane is the capital of Queensland. The centre of brisbane has many shops, restaurants and pubs. Inner city dwellings are becoming very popular for thoc=se who enjoy a cosmopolitan lifestyyle. Brisbane is located midway up the east coast of Australia (about 1,000 klm north of Sydney) at latitude 27.5oS, longtitude 153oE. The Gold Coast is located 70 klm to the south and the Sunshine Coast is about 100 klm to the north. Brisbane has a domestic and international airport. Brisbane does not have Daylight Saving and therefore is 1 hour behind other east coast capitals of Sydney and Melbourne from October to March.

Residents and visitors to Brisbane enjoy a wide range of lifestyles. The inner-city, metropolitan Brisbane is surrounded by leafy suburbs. Further out in the suburbs, the traditional Australian house on a large quarter acrce block or in some areas, acreage properties are common.

Brisbane is situated on Moreton Bay. Its many islands provide water sports and sheltered sailing.

Just north of Brisbane is the seaside town of Redcliffe, the picturesque countryside of Pine Rivers, Caboolture and the Glasshouse Mountains. Bribie Island, 50 klm north of Brisbane offers the first surf beach. The Sunshine Coast towns and hinterland are popular holiday spots for locals and interstate visitors.

Travelling west of Brisbane, past Ipswich and over the Great Dividing Range, you will find Toowoomba and the rich plains of the Darling Downs.
