Castlemaine Diggings National Heritage Park Camp Site Castlemaine Diggings National Heritage Park is located a few kilometres south and east of Castlemaine in central Victoria, 120 km north-west of Melbourne. Turn off the Calder Highway at Elphinstone or Harcourt towards Castlemaine. The Garfield Wheel is located just one kilometre north of Chewton along North Road. The camping area at Vaughan Springs has room for five regular caravans and six small tents and has no power. During peak times cold showers will be made available. There is no booking system with sites being taken on a first come basis. There are no fees for camping and to ensure that as many people as possible have the opportunity to enjoy Vaughan Springs the maximum length of stay is two weeks. Visitors are reminded that no solid fuel (wood) fires are allowed and there are electric barbeques on the river flats. Hotels, motels, bed and breakfast accommodation and caravan parks are available in Castlemaine and surrounding townships. More Information Parks Victoria Information Centre
