Peterborough
Caravan Parks, SA
Peterborough has the distinction of being one of the only two railheads in
the world where three lines of different gauges once met. The days of the
iron horse live on through the Steamtown Peterborough Railway Preservation
Society which operates steam trains on the line which still connects Peterborough
to Euralia.
The town is a popular stopover for tourists, most of whom find their way to
the two unusual museums - Eric Rann’s, with its old engines and artefacts,
and Ivan Ley’s collection of dolls and bottles.
There are pleasant picnic spots alongside Victoria Park lake and the lookout from Tank Hill presents magnificent views. Peterborough was a major terminal when the rail network was vital to the state's north and a restored train still runs special return services to the town and neighbouring Terowie from Burra.
