Located half way between Mackay and Townsville. a 2 hours 10 min flight from Sydney. It is a 45 minutes trip by water taxi from Shute Harbour. A large island which is 4.5. km long and 3 km wide. It covers 750 hectares.

The Hamilton Island Resort was the brainchild of Queensland developer Keith Williams who created a multi-use island with everything from private dwellings through to a diverse range of hotels.

By the end of 1998 a refurbishment program costing $40 million was completed. The island centrepiece is the Reef View Hotel which is 19 storeys high and boasts the highest external lift in Australia.

The most popular form of transporton on the isalnd is electric golf buggies. The island is quite hilly and therefore a buggy is a must if you want to get around the island. They are available for daily and weekly hire and there literally hundreds of them on the island.

There island has a church, a museum which boasts the world's largest private collection of motorcycles. You can take a bushwalk to delightful destinations such as the Coral Cove, Passage Peak and Escape Beach.

It is the only Whitsunday island to have an airport capable of handling wide bodied jet aircraft

Hamilton Island boasts the largest selection of activities of all the islands including a shooting range, mini golf, wire flyer, driving range, go carts, tennis, all the water sports cruises, joy flights. Other activities range from snorkelling to reef fishing, sailboard riding, tennis, squash, walking trails and the Hamilton Island Mountain Top Fauna Park with koalas, kangaroos, emus, wombats and a variety of birdlife.

There are ten restaurants on the Island.

Shopping

The island has a number of shops for tourists and local residents. You can buy your groceries or shop for clothes in the many shops on the island.
