Carrington,
NSW
One of Newcastle’s older suburbs, the peninsula suburb of Carrington
sits on land formed by the main stream and the Hunter River. Flanked by Port
Hunter’s main state dockyard complex, Carrington is a traditional working
class suburb whose quality of life has long been tempered by the traffic generated
by the port handling facilities.
The local environment has been enhanced by the recent redevelopment of the
industrial and portside precinct bordering nearby Honeysuckle Drive and Wharf
Road. The redevelopment includes landscaped reserves, interpretive centres
and a museum and streetside restaurants and cafes
