Coraki, which sits at the junction of the Richmond and Wilson rivers, is exclusively
recreational and the region 's prosperity is generated from the sugar cane farms
and the new crop, melaleuca alternifolia, from which the tea tree oil is extracted.
The region celebrates the natural oil every October with the Tea Tree Festival.
Coraki's historic buildings include several old churches and the original council
chambers.
An old government jetty is the only reminder that the small town was an important port the Richmond River a century ago.
