Doyalson is within minutes of the southern shores of Lake Macquarie which stretches north to the southern fringes of Newcastle and the Tuggerah Lakes are just to the east and south.

Both lakes offer superb boating and fishing. Beyond the lakes and the national parks lie some fine surfing beaches that run from Broken Bay to the Hunter rivermouth. A number of the beaches are accessible to bushwalkers, picnickers and campers in the 1462ha Munmorah State Recreation Area
