Goulburn,
NSW
The second oldest inland city of Australia. Goulbourn is halfway between Sydney
and Canberra is a popular stopover on the trip from Sydney to Canberra. The
town serves a large farming community
in the region. In 1863 Goulburn became the last town in the British
Empire to be decreed a city by virtue of being created a bishopric. The Queen
Anne town hall and post office enhance the main street. Convicts worked on
farms and built roads, including the 1839 bridge near the stockade.
