Hat Head is a quiet fishing village, about 20km east of Kempsey on the mouth of Korongo Creek, Hat Head offers anglers the choice of fishing in the creek, off the rocks,or in the surf or hire a charter craft to fish for the marlin and Spanish mackerel offshore. The Gap picnic reserve leads to a track and sharp climb to the summit of Hat Hill which presents a panoramic view of the coast.

Nearby Crescent Head and South West Rocks lie at the southern and northern boundaries of Hat Head National Park, while Nambucca Heads is about an hour’s drive to the north. Extending over 6445ha, Hat Head Park offers camping facilities at Smoky Cape and Hungry Head and most visitors make the 2km Korogoro Point bushwalk that begins at the town reserve and leads through coastal rainforest
