Woolgoolga, NSW

Woolgoolga, a delightful seaside village about 580km north of Sydney and 26km north of Coffs Harbour on the mid-north coast of NSW. The large Indian community here supports the Raj Mahal Indian Cultural Centre. And then there's the impressive Guru Nanak Sikh temple, the impressive white facade.

Originally a cedar-cutting town, the locals tried their hands at sugar cane growing and banana growing before diversifying into all sorts of modern enterprises – from boat building to tropical plant propagation. The fishing, crabbing and prawning around Woolgoolga is renowned. Just 10km north of town is Yuraygir National Park, where you'll find kilometres of almost-deserted, pristine beaches, sand dunes, bushwalking trails and camping and picnicking spots
