The town of Mudgee is famous as a wine-producing region. It sits within a region with goldrush and rural booms, rich in heritage buildings, museums, galleries, memorial tributes to brilliant poet and writer Henry Lawson, gold fossicking, and sheep shearing.
As
a wine producing region for over 100 years, the best time to visit Mudgee
is in June when for the Wine and Food Fair or in September for the Huntington
Festival which has local food and wine with classical music.
The second oldest town west of the Blue Mountains laid out in 1838 by Robber Hoddle along the banks of the Cudgegong River. A score of handsome buildings classified by the National Trust dot the town.
