Bluff is located on the Capricorn Highway between Dingo and Blackwater. It is a must-see for rail enthusiasts. In the 1950's it became the largest township in the shire due to the development of mining in the area which brought an influx of people.
Bluff is now the major interchange station for coal trains in Central Queensland, with most residents being rail employees
