Located 52km west from Gympie along the Wide Bay Highway. Kilkivan takes you via the Brooyar Forest Drive, Woolooga, Rossmore and the Mt Clara Chimneys. The Rossmore Road turn-off two kilometres east of Kilkivan opens on to a twisting track that eventually leads to an impressive old Chinese smelter chimney that has been restored by the Natural Trust to the grandeur in the 1870s gold rush days.

The tiwn has art and craft shops, a bric a brac shop,or visit the Kilkivan Historical Museum. Kilkivan township also has some interesting older style Queensland buildings/homes.
