4km north-east of Bowen, Queens Beach is a popular swimming spot . The beach's
calm waters are netted to keep out the deadly stingers. In winter, the weather
here is perfect and you can catch whiting in abundance along the stretches
of Queens Beach. The reef varieties which abound off Bowen also include sweetlip,
coral trout and red emperor. Every September, Bowen hosts one of Australia's
richest fishing events, the Family Fishing Classic which offers prizes worth
more than $70,000 to anglers of all ages.
