| The twin towns of coastal Tannum Sands and Boyne Island are found in Queensland, 20 km south of Gladstone and a 9 km turn-off from the Bruce Highway. The towns are connected by a bridge across the Boyne river. Holiday makers indulge in water sports like swimming, outrigging, sail-boarding and fishing. The waters at Tannum Sands have a constant temperature and are great for swimming all-year round. |
Along the foreshore is a pathway called the Millennium Esplanade for a pleasant morning stroll. Or you could take the bushwalk trail known as Turtle Way, that winds beside the river, through bushland, dunes and parks of both Tannum and Boyne Island.
The
biggest employer in the area is the Boyne Aluminium Smelter that produces
490,000 tonnes of metal a year. You can take a tour through the smelter on
Fridays.
