Boonah,
QLD
A link in the scenic loop which cuts a diverse trail through the cities, bush
towns, pasture, mountains and rainforest of the state’s south-east corner,
Boonah is the commercial centre for the prolific Fassifern Valley agricultural
district.
The town straddles the main road between the Gold Coast and Warwick. Although
the strong Irish-German pioneering influence is still evident, it has been
tempered in recent years by the influx of Brisbanites and Gold Coasters seeking
a more relaxed lifestyle. The absorbing Templin Historical Village is just
north of town, while Lake Moogerah, 20km west, is a popular aquatic playground
and fishing haunt. You can enjoy magnificent views of the valley from the
Governor's Chair at Spicer's Gap at Clumber on the western reaches of the
shire.
Small town which sits on several small hills in a bowl shadowed by Bugandan Range. A climb up the craggy sides of Mt French gives views from the top over Fassifern Valley. Back roads lead to Lake Moogerah which has a waterskiing area.
