From Cooktown to the tip of Australia is some of the most spectacular and rugged country in Australia and one of the world's last rainforest wilderness frontiers. The area is an unexplored wilderness with thousands of species of tropical birds, beautiful waterfalls and crocodiles.

Most northerly point on Australia’s mainland. 10.41 South, a four days’ hard drive up the peninsula along a dirt road which runs through increasingly sandy sparse woodland.

This area, accessible by 4wd vehicle over rugged dirt roads which cross several rivers. Safari tours are available from Cairns and take about 10-14 days for a round trip with visits to Thursday Island off the tip of Cape York. The recommended time for travelling is during the dry season (June-September) as the rivers swell during the wet season often closing roads.
