Mermaid Beach is at the heart of the Gold Coast, just a few kilometres from
Surfers Paradise. The suburb is just a comfortable walk from Broadbeach where
high-fashion shops and a great selection of restaurants near the sand and
surf of Kurrawa Beach which has virtually become the home of the Australian
Surf Life-saving Championships.
A monorail links Broadbeach to Jupiters Casino, which, in turn is across the
road from Pacific Fair, one of Australia's largest yet most relaxed shopping
centres. In addition to the surf titles, the Gold Coast sporting attractions
include a world-ranked marathon, national triathlons, the Magic Millions racing
and yearling sale carnival and one of the few street-circuit races on the
Indy Car international motor-racing calendar.
