Angaston is set on the highest point of the Barossa Valley. The town shares an English and German heritage and takes its name from George Fife Angas, who settled in the area in the 1830s. The surviving family homestead on the outskirts of town is protected by the National Trust and is open for public viewing.
You
can absorb some of the history of Angaston and the development of the Barossa
Valley vineyards by taking the Heritage Walk. Ten minutes out of town, a bush
trail leads you through the Kaiser Stuhl Conservation Park which includes
part of the state-wide Heysen Trail.
On the fringe of the valley sloping into the foothills, a town of handsome buildings steeped in history. Yalumba’s winery of blue marble is set off by a clock tower. The Agricultural Show is held in February.
