Bordertown
was once an overnight haven for the armed guards escorting the booty on the
gold run from Victoria’s Mt Alexander diggings to the banks of Adelaide.
The sleepy little town 275 klm south-east of Adelaide is now the commercial
centre for surrounding wool, cereal, beef and vegetable producers.
The Bordertown Wildlife Park is a sanctuary for a variety of native birds
and animals, including some rare white kangaroos. The Heritage-listed Clayton
Farm, which is distinguished by thatch-roofed buildings, now houses the record,
relics and memorabilia collected over the years by the Bordertown District
Museum
Not on the border at all, but 18km away, this town was given its name when the boundary was in dispute. Visions of it becoming the main town of the south-east never materialized. The Agricultural Show is held in October.
