Bute is 142km from Adelaide and is located about halfway between Port Wakefield
and Port Broughton which are situated on opposite sides of the shoulder of
Yorke Peninsula. Today it is a service centre for local primary producers.
Bute has long been a stopover for travellers and the traditional spirit of
hospitality is maintained with well-appointed picnic areas in the Railway
Reserve park in the centre of town.
The
Flinders Ranges abounds with wildlife from wedge-tailed eagles and emus to
colourful parrots, and kangaroos ,which are all indigenous to this this area.
Containing three national parks the Flinders are arguably one of Australia's
most under-rated natural attractions. The Mid North has some of the richest
agricultural and pastoral land in the state, with a valuable maritime and
mining history , idyllic wine producing district and natural bushland adventures.
Travellers looking for a spot to break their trip can pull into the fauna
park on the Bute fringe. The fauna reserve is equipped with barbecues and
picnic facilities. It is a only a half hour drive from Bute to the seaside
resort towns, beaches and rich fishing grounds of Port Broughton, Port Wakefield
and Wallaroo and Tickera Bay . Accommodation includes caravan parks and farm-stay
cottages.
In the heart of picturesque Clare Valley this charming town is surrounded by a dozen vineyards thriving in rich red brown soil. The Clare Valley Wine Festival is staged over Easter in even numbered years. The Annual Show is held in October.
