Cummins
is at the centre of a rich, diversified farming region, which mainly produces
wheat, barley and canola Not only is it a pleasant town in its own right,
but Cummins is only half an hour’s drive from such magnificent fishing
and surfing beaches as Coffin Bay, Port Lincoln and Tumby Bay, and the breathtaking
grandeur of the cliff-studded west coast.
Cummins’ signature, however, is the World Championship Kalamazoo Classic
held every April when the town celebrates its railway heritage. The event
involves teams racing hand-operated rail carts, or kalamazoos, along a measured-section
of track.
The spectacular west coast cliffs are particularly beautiful and the route
from Cummins takes you by Kapinnie Lakes, Mt Greenly and Lake Hamilton. Take
the road east to Koppio or Tumby Bay and you will see the Glendara Rose Garden,
the Koppio Smithy Museum and the Todd River Reservoir.
