Lucindale
might be a small village in the state’s south-east, but it is a community
which is big on ideas. And there has been none bigger than the local Lions
Club decision in the late 1970s to set up an annual agricultural display in
the town’s recreational grounds.
Today the South East Field Days - held every third Friday and Saturday in
March - attract more than 26,000 visitors into the town with a normal population
of 400. The field days bring together 500 exhibitors displaying a wide range
of agricultural, technological, craft and service products and rivals in wool
handling, yard dog, quilting and gadget competitions.
43 klms west of Naracoorte, Lucindale boasts a number of unusual attractions
in the Lucindale Motor Co and Art Gallery and in a museum attached to the
soldiers' settlement. The working service station also has a mural of old
cars, a collection of wooden vintage cars, restored brass burners and a gallery
of hand-painted gifts. The museum features old houses, railway carriages and
memorabilia
