Melrose,
SA
The small historic town of Melrose is the oldest settlement in the Flinders
Ranges. Melrose is a significant grazing and grain-producing area. More recently,
it has diversified into olive groves, oil seeds and grapes.
John Eyre named Mt Remarkable, 959m, in 1839 and commented that it “towered over the surrounding hills”. Melrose sits serenely at its foot, steeped in old charm. The Melrose Show is held in September/October.
