Mundoora serving the district farmers at the head of the Yorke Peninsula.
Then the State Government stepped in to commission a local seafarer named
Captain Dale to establish a port to move the wheat and other produce from
the Mundoora region.
The first jetty was completed at what we now know as Port Broughton in 1874.
And in the intervening years Mundoora has changed little, while Port Broughton
has become a popular fishing and boating resort and the commercial hub for
the region.
The Port provides not only swimming and boating recreation, but the deepwater
harbour, which is protected by Mundoora Arm Inlet, supports a professional
prawn fleet, while recreational anglers are attracted by the plentiful stock
of fish and crabs. There are all weather boat ramps at Port Broughton and
in nearby Fishermans Bay. Port Broughton hosts a Doll Spectacular in May in
every even year
