Sixty kilometres south of Adelaide, the Fleurieu Peninsula town of Myponga
is at the centre of rich grazing and dairy country. Much of the region’s
water comes from the nearby reservoir on which the thriving local floriculture
and specialist nursery industry is also dependent. The nurseries are open
seasonally to the public.
The scenic drive across the reservoir and through the catchment area presents
sweeping views of the landscape back to Adelaide. The drive south to the seaside
resort of Carrickalinga provides dramatic views of the south coast.
The golden sands, fishing, reef snorkelling and stunning sunsets make Carrickalinga
a popular summer hideaway. McLaren Vale, the cradle of the South Australian
wine industry, is a short drive on the main road north from Myponga. The coastal
detour north takes the visitor through Myponga Beach, Aldinga Beach, Port
Willunga and South Australia's first, official nude bathing beach, Maslin.
