Naracoorte
is a laid-back town at the centre of thriving pastoral, agricultural and viticultural
industries. The town’s dependence on the wool industry is traced in
the Sheep’s Back Museum, while you can watch the manufacture of woollen
products from the viewing gallery of the Mini Jumbuk.
Two district cave systems, Victoria and Alexandra, offer contrasts in subterranean
formations, and you can take a top-of-the ground walk back in time in the
Wonambi Fossil Centre which presents an ancient landscape in which such long-extinct
megafauna such as the Diprotodon, Procotodon and Thylacoleo Carnifex prowl.
the steepling spire of St Andrews Presbyterian Church and St Pauls Anglican
Church, which has added a war memorial to the original church architecture
in the form of a consecrated lychgate.
Pleasant town that sits on the lonely land rising above the plain. The Agricultural Show is held in November.
