Port Broughton has become the tail that wags the dog. While Mundoora’s
population hovers round the 30-mark, the port supports a population of 1500
and is becoming an increasingly popular resort for Yorke Peninsula holiday-makers
and fishing enthusiasts. It has a safe swimming beach backed by a children’s
playground and boat ramp access to the protected harbour which not only lures
recreational anglers, but supports a professional prawn fleet.
Just to the north, the small township of Fisherman's Bay presides over a sheltered
swimming beach, boat ramp and playground. To the south lie the copper coast
towns of Kadina, Moonta and Wallaroo and the salt lakes of the Snowtown-Lochiel
area. Port Broughton is also within comfortable driving distance of the Clare
Valley vineyards
Fishing port resort sitting on a sheltered bay since 1871, beautifully set at the mouth of Mundoora Arm Inlet with a wooden jetty stretching almost to the opposite shore. Hotel Broughton, with its attractive iron lacework balcony, is most conspicuous on the attractive waterfront.
