Port
Lincoln on the Eyre Peninsula has developed into a thriving provincial city
set on a magnificent natural harbour. Boston Bay covers an area three and
a half times larger than Sydney Harbour and its waters are protected by Boston
Island. The bay is an Eden for watersports while the Sir Joseph Banks islands
to the north-east and Thorny Passage to the south give off-shore anglers and
blue water sailors a wide range of recreational options.
The city and the lower Eyre Peninsula offer plenty to keep tourists occupied
- surf beaches, secluded picnic spots, rugged scenery, a hinterland teeming
with wildlife
Island dotted Boston Bay provides a delightful outlook for this port. This is home port for the State’s largest tuna fleet. The bay is ideal for water sports and makes the town a leading holiday centre. The Tunarama Festival, marking the start of the tuna season, is held on Australia Day weekend and the Lincoln Cup race meeting is in March. The annual show is held in October.
