Roxby Downs is a modern town with all the facilities needed for a quality
lifestyle. It has its own shopping centre, tavern, swimming pool, golf course,
tennis and squash courts and bowling green. The town also hosts the Boogie
in the Bush knees-up in July and a picnic race meeting in August.
Visitors can take organised tours of the surface mining and processing operations
from March to November. To reach Roxby Downs, you turn north-east off the
Stuart Highway at Pimba, which is 173km north of Port Augusta. Woomera lies
7km along the turn-off from Pimba and Roxbury Downs is another 75km down the
road. The state’s largest and oldest opal mining town of Coober Pedy
is 370km north of Pimba.
