Swan Reach, there is no better perch than the Reach Hotel beer garden looking
down on the majestic Murray and its attendant billabongs. In these parts the
river is bordered by high, tree-lined cliffs and the sheltered waters provide
an excellent aquatic and cruising playground.
Swan Reach might be a small riverside town, but its attractions spread far
beyond the banks of the Murray. Just out of town, you’ll find the animal
wonderland of the Yookamurra Sanctuary. Set among ancient Mallee stands, the
sanctuary is a feral animal free zone in which endangered species such as
numbats, bilbies, boodies and woylies flourish in their natural habitat
The large number of swans gave this sleepy old village that lies against a picturesque backdrop of cliffs its name.
