Wirrabara is distinctive for its large pine forests, timber mill, peach orchards
and the variety of birdlife. Standing guard over the region’s history
is the King Tree - a 400-year-old gum with a girth of 11.5m.
A gentle climb to the top of a bluff above the picnic grounds opens up views
of the region to inspire you to try the walking trails that snake through
the pine forests. You need a permit both to enter the forest and to pitch
a tent in the nearby Ippanitchie camping ground. Wirrabara is 50km north of
Crystal Brook, the largest regional town and gateway to the southern ranges
