Battery Point, TAS

Looks much as it did well over a century ago and historians contend it is Australia’s most complete colonial village. Houses and cottages are packed in a jumble of narrow, hilly streets and the area retains its maritime village atmosphere, despite the nearness of the city centre. Oldest building is the 1818 signal station, used to relay messages from another station on Mt Nelson. The sloping park is the site of a battery which gave the area its name.
