Beaconsfield is an old gold mining town 40 minutes drive north west of Launceston.
The ruins of the old gold mines are the major tourist attraction of Beaconsfield.
Most notable is the Grubb Shaft Museum complex which is open 10-4 daily. It
has the mine ruins that include a miner's cottage and the Old Flowery Gully
School
Richest gold town in Tasmania and dominated by two large Romanesque brick arches, ruins of the heads of the Hart and Grubb shafts. West of Beaconsfield is Cabbage Tree Hill, the towns original name. Beaconsfield Museum is popular with visitors and the Carnival is held on the first weekend in March.
