Rocky walls of Ben Lomond provide an imposing backdrop to the valley’s main township. Across the river is Malahide, a gracious homestead built of local stone in the 1820s and looking across trim lawns to willow trees which mark the course of the river. The only hotel, The Fingal, retains signs of its convict heritage. A display of 340 brands of whisky collected by a former licensee is the hotel’s pride.
