Oatlands
is on the shore of Lake Dulverton. Oatlands is about half way between Hobart
and Launceston on the Midlands highway. Fishing lovers go to Lake Sorell,
north-west of Oatlands, and also Lake Crescent.
Much of this historic town is little changed from the 1830s, when it mushroomed as the proposed capital of the Midlands. It has a wide range of architectural styles for such a small town and is the only one of any size in Tasmania beside a lake. Callington Mill, 16m high and built in 1837, dominates the skyline.
