Birthplace of white settlement in Tasmania. Two pyramid buildings house a visitors’ display. Archaeologists have been excavating the site and remains of Aboriginal occupation going back 5000 years has been emerging. Along the Derwent highway to the north is a rock face in which scientists found the bones of vertebrate animals which died 240 million years ago.
