Smithton, Tasmania

Smithton has a Wind Farm, Cape Grim and the Base Line Air Pollution Station, and the historic homesteads such as the Directors Lodge, the shipwreck of the Colloboi at Woolnorth Point and Dismal Swamp Maze attraction. Dismal Swamp Maze has a 110 metre slide down onto the swamp floor where there are pathways through the blackwood forest. Dismal Swamp is actually a 600 hectare sinkhole
.

Rich farmland, much of it reclaimed from swamp, makes the main town in the Circular Head municipality a prosperous little place. Standing prettily on Duck River, the town contains Tasmania’s largest butter factory.
