A busy port that provides the State’s only regular shipping service. A huge paper mill dominates the shore of Emu Bay. Burnie Carnival on New Year’s Day is Australia’s biggest one day sports carnival, featuring the Burnie Gift and the Burnie Wheel cycle race. There is an Eisteddfod in May, a Youth Drama Festival in July and the Agricultural Show is held in October.
