Familiar to cave explorers, the township due south of Hamilton, and 11km south of Byaduk Caves, is also within easy reach of Mt Napier and the volcanic surrounds. To the south-west is Mt Eccles National Park, 400ha of rugged volcanic slopes and smallest park in Victoria. Three extinct volcanoes cradle Lake Surprise. Close by is a canal formed by flowing lava.
