Rutherglen
is the agricultural and one of the oldest wine growing region situated in
North-East Victoria, located near the banks of the Murray River. This old
gold rush township established in the 1850's has worked to preserve it's features
to allow travellers an opportunity to see a town , but still having modern
conveniences of a tourist destination.
The Rutherglen wine region is one of the premier fortified wine producing
area in Australia, with winemaker's passing on their knowledge for the past
five generations. The growth of the area has seen Rutherglen become the home
of many boutique wineries.
A wheat and wool town with many wineries in the area that are well known for their fortified wines. The Seppelt winery is easily recognizable because of the palm trees traditional to the company’s establishments. To the south-east is Murdering Hut Creek.
