Travel by car via the Murray Valley Hwy. Daily rail and coach services available
from Melbourne. Surrounded by rich irrigated lands that produce citrus fruits
and grapes. Situated on the banks of the Murray River, it is a major destination
for international visitors and tourists from all over Australia. Visitors
can cruise the scenic river on historic paddlesteamers, or tour the widely
acclaimed Pioneer Settlement
Paddle steamers first reached Swan Hill in 1853. For the next 80 years the port was the only Murray crossing for 100km. Swan Hill holds a carnival in February, a gymkhana in September and a rodeo in March. The annual show is held in October.
