This pleasantly laid out major centre of the region has the illusion of having water in all directions. The winding Ovens River flows down one side of the city, Three Mile Creek down the other side, and One Mile Creek in between. There is also an abundance of parks and open spaces. The city is prominent in arts, music and drama. The Colonial Festival is held here at Easter and Bontharambo Homstead is a popular tourist attraction.
