Ravensthorpe, WA

A large lump of copper outside the police station is a reminder of this town’s past. The battery can still be seen and small shafts are scattered around the bush.

Ravensthorpe is located 400 km south west of Perth. Ravensthorpe is a small sheep and wheat town, which started life as a gold and copper mining town. The area is again experiencing mining activity with nickel mining projects being developed.

Portions of the 1822-km rabbit-proof fence (recently a focus of a film of the same name) can be seen in the area around Ravensthorpe. It was constructed between 1901 and 1907 to keep rabbits ad other pests out of farming areas
